Fujitsu Optical Components offers 100-GBaud integrated coherent receiver

June 3, 2021
The ICR integrates a 90-degree hybrid, balanced receiver, polarization beam splitter, and VOA into a small package via micro assembly technology.

Fujitsu Optical Components Ltd. (FOC) has introduced a 100-GBaud integrated coherent receiver (ICR) in support of coherent 800-Gbps optical transmission. The company says it has delivered samples of the ICR to customers and expect the device to reach full commercialization in the second half of 2021.

The ICR integrates a 90-degree hybrid, balanced receiver, polarization beam splitter, and VOA into a small package via micro assembly technology. The device supports QPSK and xQAM modulation methods from 32 GBaud to 100 GBaud, which enables optimization of optical network transmission distance versus capacity in the field. The ICR’s package shape, interface, and characteristics are compliant with OIF Implementation Agreement OIF-DPC-MRX-02.0, although the device supports a higher symbol rate.

The ICR complements the company’s coherent LN modulators, shipments of which FOC says will exceed 1 million units this year. The company adds that its roadmap includes exceeding 128 GBaud and supporting wavelength expansion to the L-Band.
