Discovery Semiconductors introduces to the marketplace the first easy-to-use, linear balanced receiver instrument with remote command and control software. Discovery’s software-controlled front-end balanced O/E converter has a wavelength range of 1064 nm through 2200 nm for applications such as Analog/RF Photonics, DPSK/DQPSK/Free-Space Communication Links and LIDAR systems up to 20 GHz.

Discovery Semiconductors linear balanced receiver instrument offers the ability to optimize the gain (with both automatic and manual gain control modes) and the bandwidth per the system requirements.

While operating in Automatic Gain Control (AGC) mode, the GUI software enables compensating for variable channel losses in Free-Space/fiber optic links, achieving the best dynamic range, and maintaining constant RF Output Amplitude with the built-in AGC feedback loop.

While operating in manual gain control mode, the GUI software enables the differential RF gain to be varied up to 39 dB and the eye amplitude can be optimized per the sensitivity and saturation level of back-end electronics through the remote command and control package.

Finally, the GUI provides the ability to choose between the seven bandwidth settings to compensate for frequency-dependent losses in RF transmission lines and the transfer functions of optical transmitters.
