High Optical Power Handling, Highly Linear InGaAs Photodiodes

Oct. 14, 2016

Discovery Semiconductors introduces 50 mA and higher current handling, extended InGaAs photodiodes for burgeoning applications at 1.2 to 2.2 micron wavelengths.

As high power fiber laser and frequency comb technology at 1550 nm, as well as 2050 nm, becomes readily available, these new photodiodes become a necessity to utilize their full potential.

Mr. Abhay Joshi, President and CEO, commented, "Since 2012, we have been commercially selling 2 micron photodiodes up to 20 GHz, FWHM of 20 picoseconds and current handling of about 10 milliamps for both coherent and direct detection. These devices have been widely used by the scientific community and it was our customer's suggestion to make a low frequency photodiode with even higher current handling. Today's new product announcement will meet our customer's needs."

The new photodiode is available in multiple formats: K or SMA coax fiber optic module, surface mount fiber optic module and convenient, bench top O/E instrument Lab Buddy. Discovery is offering these modules with multimode fiber options up to a core size of 100 micron.

Applications include both coherent and direct detection for: Environmental Sensing, Biosensing, Free Space Optical Communications, Wind LIDAR, Frequency Comb and Fiber Laser Development.
