HUBER+SUHNER to reduce single-use plastic bags in product packaging

April 22, 2024
The company is switching to environmentally friendly packaging for its fiber optic cable assemblies.

HUBER+SUHNER Group, designer and producer of electrical and optical connectivity components and system solutions, announced on April 19 that it has enacted an initiative to reduce the number of single-use plastic bags it uses.

The company reports that it will reduce single-use plastic bags by 2.2 million per year and will use 100 % recyclable, FSC-certified paper packaging, which includes bags, cable ties, and box tape, for its entire range of indoor fiber optic cable assemblies. The company also reports that the new packaging is 100 % dust-free and will be easier for customers to open.

Head of Global Sustainability at HUBER+SUHNER, Lana Ollier, said in a press release, “This initiative represents one small step in our company-wide journey to drive sustainability in our operations and products. In an industry where the use of single-use plastic packaging remains commonplace, our initiative serves to highlight that HUBER+SUHNER not only understands our corporate responsibility but our customers’ growing demand for more sustainable products.”

HUBER+SUHNER reports that it is also switching other product lines, like indoor fiber optic cable systems and harsh environment fiber optic cable assemblies, to sustainable packaging in the coming months.
