VIAVI Solutions adds Wavescan, SFP Protect capabilities to 4100 series DWDM OTDR

Wavescan automatically identifies the channel(s) of a multiplexer/demultiplexer port and completes OTDR certification of the link. SFP Protect ensures any Tx/Rx optics still connected at the far end of the optical link are not damaged by live testing.

Viavi Solutions (NASDAQ:VIAV) has added Wavescan and SFP Protect capabilities to its 4100 series DWDM OTDR. Wavescan automatically identifies the channel(s) of a multiplexer/demultiplexer port and completes OTDR certification of the link. SFP Protect is designed to ensure any Tx/Rx optics still connected at the far end of the optical link are not damaged by live testing.

The Wavescan feature scans and identifies the DWDM port in less than 10 seconds. It can eliminate guesswork in applications where the port labeling is wrong, missing, or unreadable, VIAVI says. Use of SFP Protect reduces the risk of accidentally damaging SFP/SPF+ optical transceivers, thus avoiding the time and cost to replace such devices. Combined, the capabilities help technicians avoid installing the wrong SFP/SPF+ or programming the SFP/SPF+ incorrectly.

The 4100 series DWDM OTDR enables test measurements to be taken from the head-end, central office, C-RAN hub, or HFC hub site. Such single-ended test capabilities obviates the need to send a second technician into the field. VIAVI asserts the C-Band tunable DWDM OTDR with Wavescan and SFP Protect features, alongside the T-BERD/MTS-2000, -4000, -5800 and CellAdvisor 5G or OneAdvisor-800 platforms, helps ensure that DWDM deployment, activation, and maintenance tasks are performed correctly the first time.
