Santec Corp. is now in the cable assembly test business, thanks to the acquisitions of JGR Optics Inc. and OptoTest Corp. The two companies will operate as Santec subsidiaries under the leadership of their current senior executives. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Ottawa-based JGR Optics was founded in 2002. The company provides test resources in the following applications and technology areas:
- cable assembly testing
- component testing
- environmental testing
- tunable lasers
- optical switches
- optical attenuators
- inspection
- software
- accessories.
Recently released products include the MBR1 – Multi-channel Backreflection Meter, PDL1 Polarization Dependent Loss Meter, and the OB1 – Variable Backreflector.
OptoTest is headquartered in Camarillo, CA, under the leadership of CEO Caroline Connolly. The company makes a variety of fiber insertion loss, return loss, power loss, and polarity meters as well as test equipment for MPO/MPT connectors (see, for example, "OptoTest launches OP960 insertion loss and return loss meters," "OptoTest offers OP925 continuous-wave return loss and insertion loss meter," and "OptoTest offers OP940-CSW MPO/MTP insertion loss and return loss test system"). The company also supports discontinuity and multichannel environmental testing and supplies a variety of ancillary technology, including switches, in some instances in partnership with other firms (see, for example, “OptoTest to sell Fujikura fusion splicers via AFL”).
“We’re excited to enter the fiber testing market with the acquisitions of JGR Optics and OptoTest. Both companies have a proven track record of delivering high-performance return loss, insertion loss and polarity measurement systems as well as optical switches to fiber-optic cable assemblies and components productions" said Mototaka Tei, CEO of Santec Corp. "Santec is a leading supplier of test and measurement systems for optical telecom and datacom and with this acquisition we widen our footprint [to] the growing market for fiber-optics production equipment. JGR and OptoTest both have complementary technology to Santec. The acquisitions will not only allow us to operate in adjacent markets but will enable us to expand our product offering by integrating their technology into Santec's products and solutions.”
