VIAVI Solutions DTSS B-OTDR

Feb. 20, 2019
The VIAVI Distributed Fiber Optic Temperature and Strain Sensing (DTSS) B-OTDR can be used to fully analyze fiber conditions for many infrastructure health monitoring uses cases, including remote infrastructure such as pipelines and dams, allowing failures and risks to be detected before damage leads to catastrophic consequences. It uses Distributed FOS (Fiber Optic Sensing), a sensing and OTDR technology in which a fiber is used as the sensor.

Distributed temperature and strain measurements can be taken based on Brillouin scattering or B-OTDR.

Judge’s comment: “Demonstrable improvement over existing equipment of its kind. Valuable additional features, such as the ability to identify and localize events along the fiber.”
