Sparkle partners with Juniper Networks for 400G network capabilities

March 1, 2022
The fiber network upgrade also will save power and space requirements at Sparkle’s points of presence, thus supporting the service provider’s sustainability goals, Juniper adds.

Juniper Networks, (NYSE: JNPR) says it has delivered elements of it 400G platform portfolio to Italy’s Sparkle. In addition to supplying enhanced transmission capabilities, the fiber network upgrade also will save power and space requirements at Sparkle’s points of presence, thus supporting the service provider’s sustainability goals, Juniper adds.

Sparkle is using the 400 Gigabit Ethernet support capabilities of Juniper’s PTX Series Routers as well as 400-Gbps optical modules as part of the infrastructure upgrade. The company operates a global Tier-1 IP transit backbone called Seabone, through which it supplies connectivity to ISPs and content providers. Sparkle’s infrastructure includes more than 600,000 km of fiber spread across regional systems in Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Americas, as well as submarine cables.

“The 400G platform from Juniper will be a key tool in our ongoing challenge to match constantly growing traffic demands at very competitive price-per-port in the context of premium space and power costs, without sacrificing reliability and features,” commented Enrico Bagnasco, CTO of Sparkle. “In addition, the better economy of scale and a denser configuration supports the high standard for eco-sustainable design and energy efficiency to which we work.”

“Juniper is pleased to support customers like Sparkle as they balance their sustainability journey with achieving their commercial goals and customer experience requirements. We share Sparkle’s vision of having a significantly positive impact on the environment and believe that innovation in sustainable technology is as important as reducing our environmental footprint,” added Raj Yavatkar, Juniper’s CTO.
