ADVA TeraFlex CoreChannel promises 800G reach of more than 1,600 km

June 14, 2021
The use of 140-GBaud sub-carriers improves reach by more than 50% compared with 95-GBaud systems, the company asserts.

ADVA (FSE: ADV) last week at OFC 2021 unveiled the FSP 3000 TeraFlex CoreChannel, an optical transport system that will support 800-Gbps wavelengths over more than 1,600 km. The use of 140-GBaud sub-carriers improves reach by more than 50% compared with 95-GBaud systems, the company asserts.

The TeraFlex CoreChannel sled will support 400GbE, 100GbE, and 10GbE or a mixture of client speeds. The technology is in trials with what ADVA described as “major carriers and R&E network operators.”

The system house sees TeraFlex CoreChannel as applicable to metro, core, and ultra-long-haul submarine applications. “Customers can now transport data at 400 Gbps and 800 Gbps over longer distances than ever before with a solution that delivers the lowest possible cost per bit per kilometer,” said Christoph Glingener, CTO of ADVA. “Our FSP 3000 TeraFlex CoreChannel technology offers an enormous boost to operators transmitting services across countries and continents. What’s more, long-haul transport with TeraFlex CoreChannel is even more efficient and reliable thanks to its superior link signal-to-noise requirements and higher network performance.”
