Orlando-based communications services provider Summit Broadband has upgraded the capabilities of its fiber network throughout its home state of Florida with the deployment of Ciena’s Adaptive IP technology. The enhanced capabilities are designed to improve delivery of the company’s roster of services to its residential, business, hospitality, and wholesale customers.

The network enhancements are part of the company transformation kicked off with the acquisition of Summit Broadband by Grain Management in 2020 and the subsequent installation of Kevin Coyne as CEO (see “Grain Management finishes Summit Broadband buy”). The company currently operates high-speed fiber networks in Central, West, and Southwest Florida.

The most recent network upgrade has seen the installation of elements of Ciena’s Adaptive IP portfolio. These include Ciena’s 6500 ROADM, through which Summit Broadband offers 400GbE wavelength services. Summit Broadband also has deployed Ciena’s Adaptive IP Apps and Manage, Control and Plan (MCP) domain controller. This new technologies enhance the flexibility, adaptability, control of the fiber network, Summit Broadband and Ciena say.

“The past year has shown us how having access to high-quality connectivity is a necessity for everyday life,” said Coyne. “We chose to invest in deploying Ciena’s cutting-edge solutions to bring an enhanced digital experience across Florida, connecting more people and businesses using higher speeds and lower latency services.”
