Prysmian touts sustainable ECO CABLE fiber cables

April 20, 2023
The company says its ECO Cable label signals the cable conforms to a series of parameters based on “recognized and measurable criteria” in line with its markets’ main regulatory frameworks and requirements.

Prysmian Group has announced its new line of “green certified” ECO CABLE portfolio at this week’s FTTH Conference 2023 in Madrid, Spain. The company says its ECO Cable label signals the cable conforms to a series of parameters based on “recognized and measurable criteria” in line with its markets’ main regulatory frameworks and requirements.

The company says its ECO CABLE certification leverages an automatic calculation system that takes into account such factors as carbon footprint, absence of substances of “very high concern,” recyclability/circularity, recycling input rate, environmental benefits, and cable transmission efficiency (basically, fiber density).

Having put its various lines of fiber cable products through this evaluation, Prysmian says that approximately 30% of them are compliant with the ECO CABLE standard. Prysmian will add the ECO CABLE label to these products beginning in May in Europe, with the rest to follow starting later in the year.

“The ECO CABLE products are aimed at proactively addressing the greener and greener expectations of the telecom market and of all stakeholders,” explained Philippe Vanhille, executive vice president of the Telecom Division at Prysmian Group. “We are now ready to present our range of telecom products where the measurable and recognized sustainable criteria can be applied, to support the decarbonization of operators and broadband infrastructure providers and strengthen their green supply chain and value proposition.“
