Sumitomo Electric Lightwave’s 3RU Rack-Mounted Splice Enclosure Honored by 2023 Cabling Installation & Maintenance Innovators Awards

Sept. 11, 2023

[Raleigh, NC, Sep 11, 2023] – Sumitomo Electric Lightwave (SEL), a Sumitomo Electric Industries Group company, announced today that its 3RU Rack-Mounted Splice Enclosure – 144 spliced ribbon (1,728 fibers) capacity within a 3RU space – was recognized among the best by the 2023 Cabling Installation & Maintenance Innovators Awards. An esteemed and experienced panel of judges from the cabling community named SEL as a Gold honoree.

“On behalf of the Cabling Installation & Maintenance Innovators Awards, I would like to congratulate SEL on their Gold level honoree status,” said Cabling Installation & Maintenance Chief Editor Patrick McLaughlin. “This competitive program allows Cabling Installation & Maintenance to celebrate and recognize the most innovative products, projects, technologies, and programs impacting the industry.”

SEL has achieved ground-breaking capacity within a 3RU space by using splice tray and cable routing technology to better utilize space within small high-density cabinets such as the 3K Vertical Hyperscale eXchange (V-HSX). The newly developed splice trays and enhanced cable-routing brackets eliminate wasted space within the enclosure without sacrificing fiber slack storage, cable management, or usability.

“Our 3RU Rack-Mounted Splice Enclosure provides a secure, clean, and cost-efficient distribution point in which to transition between different cable formats and fiber counts, protect fiber terminations (bare fibers), and manage excess cable slack,” stated Josh Seawell, SEL’s Director of Product Management. “We are honored to have been selected for this prestigious award. It is the culture of SEL to find solutions that uniquely meet our customers’ needs. The 3RU is just one of our next generation solutions aimed at maximizing and simplifying networks.”

Sumitomo Electric Lightwave (SEL) is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd.
