Military Aerospace Gold Honoree

Discovery Semiconductors’ (DSC) an innovator in manufacturing high reliability, space qualified, optical receivers announced today that its Space Qualified, Short Wave Infrared, Extended InGaAs Photodiodes to 2.4 Micron Wavelength was recognized among the best by the 2021 Military & Aerospace Electronics Innovators Award. An esteemed and experienced panel of judges from the aerospace and defense community recognized Discovery Semiconductors’ as a Gold Honoree.

“On behalf of the Military & Aerospace Electronics Innovator Awards, I would like to congratulate Discovery Semiconductors on their Gold level honoree status,” said Military & Aerospace Electronics Editor in Chief John Keller. “This competitive program allows Military & Aerospace Electronics to celebrate and recognize the most innovative products impacting the aerospace and defense community this year.”

The Space Qualified InGaAs, Short Wave Infrared, Extended InGaAs Photodiodes from Discovery Semiconductors Inc. are resilient to radiation and comprehensively tested for Protons, Gammas, constituent elements of the Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCR), & most recently for Carbon. Periodic radiation testing on these devices is performed at the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory (NSRL).

“The onus of this work has been to qualify Extended InGaAs photodiode with 2.4 µm cutoff wavelength for future remote sensing space missions. However, these devices demonstrate linear performance up to >10 mW of incident optical power. Thus, this work also benefits other space applications, such as LIDAR and optical communication links, which require uncooled photodiodes operating at higher optical power levels.” commented Abhay M. Joshi, President and CEO, Discovery Semiconductors.
