New Product Announcement:

High Optical Power Handling Balanced Photodiodes to 5 GHz Bandwidth for Quantum Key Distribution (QKD)

Discovery Semiconductors, an industry leader in manufacturing balanced detectors since 2001, introduces its high power balanced photodiodes to 5 GHz bandwidth. The DSC705 is a balanced InGaAs photodiode in “push-pull” configuration with each photodiode capable of handling high optical power up to +17 dBm (50 mW). As a pair, they will handle +20 dBm (100 mW).

These InGaAs balanced photodiodes are ideal for Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) detection schemes as they are shot noise limited. The broad wavelength response (1060 nm through 1650 nm) of these photodiodes allows for one device for multiple wavelengths, and reduces operational and inventory cost. Additionally, they are well suited for applications using high LO powers up to +20 dBm, such as Coherent LIDAR with high dynamic range.

“Discovery Semiconductors has been a leader in supplying key balanced receivers for QKD community. As cyber security gains prominence, this new balanced photodiode offers another option,” commented Abhay Joshi, President and CEO.

Typical of Discovery Semiconductors’ product line, these high powered InGaAs balanced photodiodes are available in either a K connectorized package or Discovery’s easy-to-use, self-contained Lab Buddy instrument.

Meet us this January/February in San Francisco, at the SPIE Photonics West 2017 exhibition, booth # 2611 and in Santa Clara, at the DesignCon 2017 exhibition, booth # 122.
